Section Analysis [QG-11]

Section Geometry Definition

To define a section and view its properties in OpenBrIM, follow these steps:

1

→ Log in to your account and locate the 'Project' option in the top right corner.

→ Click on 'Project' and then select 'NEW' from the top left corner of the screen.

2

→ Under the 'Empty Projects' section, click on 'New Project' specifically located within the 'FEA Workflow'.

3

Please note that in this example, the FEA workflow is used, but the same operations can be performed in other workflows as well.

4

→ Provide a name for your project and proceed to open the FEA Workflow project.

5

→ Click ‘Data’ at the bottom of the page.

6

In the upcoming steps, we will create an example rectangular reinforced concrete section.

7

→ Click on the ‘FEA' tab at the top-left of the opened spreadsheet, and then click on ‘Materials' tree-view item, which is located under 'Properties’ tree-view item.

8

Import material in the opened spreadsheet by clicking ‘three-dot’ at the cell and then selecting ‘Import Material’.

Import the concrete material by selecting the suitable option from the relevant database and category drop-down menus.
Import the reinforcing steel material by choosing the appropriate option from the corresponding database and category drop-down menus.

9

Navigate to the "Reinforcement" section within the tree-view under the "Properties".
Import rebar profile in the spreadsheet by clicking ‘three-dot’ at the cell and then selecting ‘Import Rebar Profile’.
From the opened window, accessed by clicking the three-dot button, select the appropriate database and category for the desired rebar profile.

10

Move to the "Sections" item within the tree-view, and then provide a name for the section you wish to define.

11

Click three dot on any cell and open the ‘Section Editor’.

12

First, click on the ‘Shapes’ in the top left corner to open shapes menu, then click on the 'Template' section.

13

After selecting Rectangle shape at Basic Shapes, click on the "Add" button to add the shape to the section.

14

Please note that the ‘import’ can also be done by clicking on the three-dot icon in the spreadsheet cell and clicking "Import Section".

15

Once the shape is defined in the section, rebar or tendon can be added within the Section Editor.

16

Rebar and tendon can be added either;

by entering parameters.

17

by drawing rebar points.

18

The final state of the section can be viewed on the side. In this example, three sequential rebar layouts have been added in an ordered manner.

Sectional Analysis

1

Click on the three dots next to the name.

Access to the 'Flexure Capacity,' 'Moment Curvature,' and 'Interaction Diagram' can be obtained from this location.

2

Click on ‘Flexure Capacity’.

3

Click on ‘Moment Curvature’.

4

Click on ‘Interaction Diagram’.

Section Properties Computation

1

Click the ‘back button’ at the top-left corner will navigate back to the spreadsheet.
