Generative Objects [QG-12]

1

→ Log in to your account and locate the 'Project' option in the top right corner.

→ Click on 'Project' and then select 'NEW' from the top left corner of the screen.

2

→ Under the 'Steel Bridge Workflows' section, locate 'Steel I-Girder Bridge Workflow' and select 'New Project.'

3

→ Provide a name for your project and proceed to open the example project.

Please note that the initial download process for the library components take approximately 2 minutes and 30 seconds to complete. The reopening of the same project will experience a notable increase in speed, primarily due to the caching of OpenBrIM library objects within your browser. The loading of library objects during this process generally takes less than 2-3 seconds.

Create Superstructure Using the Generative Library Object

Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

Choose "Generative: Modeling" and then select "Steel I Girder Bridge Layout."

A warning message is displayed, indicating that the superstructure generation requires at least one alignment. Prior to continuing with this step, let's navigate back to the spreadsheet to create an alignment.

→ Click on the 'DATA' button located in the bottom-middle section of the screen.

This will open a spreadsheet.

→ Enter Start Station as 0.

→ Click the three-dots icon on the Start Station cell, and then click 'Editor' to define alignment properties.

→ Click + icon next to the Horizontal and add a circular segment.

→ Enter Length as 530 ft, Radius as 700 ft, Direction as Towards Right and after click accept button.

→ Click Accept

→ Click Zoom Extend

After clicking "Zoom Extend," you will observe the alignment in your graphics window.

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Choose "Generative: Modeling" and then select "Steel I Girder Bridge Layout."

→ Input a Bridge Start Station value of 0 feet and a Bridge Length value of 530 feet.

→ Click Generate

→ Now, return to the Support Lines Spreadsheet and modify the support stations to the following values: 0, 160, 370, 530.

The concept here is that after generating the objects, users have the flexibility to customize the model according to their requirements by adjusting these parameters. For instance, another crucial step following model generation involves navigating to the Plate Girder spreadsheet and entering plate dimensions.

Create Substructure Using the Generative Library Objects

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Choose "Generative: Modeling" and then select "Hammerhead Pier"

→ Proceed to the Pier Cap section in the workflow tree and make the necessary adjustments to the rebar data. Refer to the screenshots on the right for step-by-step guidance.

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Select "Generative: Modeling," and from there, opt for "Straddle Bent." Now, choose "Support Line" as "SL2."

→ Now go back to boundary conditions and modify your bearing fixities and transfer forces to substructure parameter.

As we have created two substructures for Support Line 1 and Support Line 2, the "Transfer Forces to Substructure" parameter should be set to "Yes" for these specific locations.

Create Stages Using the Generative Library Objects

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Choose "Generative: FEA" and then select "Steel I Girder Staged Construction and Loading"

Modify the loads as required and click Generate

View the FEA Stages and Loading Generated

Add Code Check Objects for Superstructure and Substructure Components

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Choose "Generative: Design" and then select "Steel I Girder Code Check"

Select the Girder and click Generate

It will generate 10 code check stations for each span along the girder.

→ Click an empty area within the graphics window and then click on the magic icon.

→ Choose "Generative: Design" and then select "Steel I Girder Substructure Code Check"

It generates a code check object for the pier at both the top and bottom of the pier column.

Run Analysis and Design

Please note that the analysis for this project typically takes around 2.5 minutes to complete.

Please note that the design for this project typically takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Revolutionizing Bridge Design with AI-Powered Innovation

OpenBrIM platform is undergoing training with advanced machine learning algorithms, enhancing its ability to automatically optimize input parameters for bridge components when utilizing generative objects. Furthermore, constraints based on your project's unique site conditions and machine learning algorithms will empower you to create optimized bridges that precisely align with your project requirements. Stay tuned for exciting developments on the horizon!
