Interoperability [QG-5]

Access Steel I-Girder Training Example

Please follow instructions below to access ‘Steel I-Girder Training Example’.

1

→ Log in to your account and locate the 'Project' option in the top right corner.

→ Click on 'Project' and then select 'NEW' from the top left corner of the screen.

2

→ Under the 'Example Project' section, click on 'New Project' specifically located within the 'Steel I-Girder Training Example'.

3

→ Provide a name for your project and proceed to open the example project.

Please note that the initial download process for the library components take approximately 2 minutes and 30 seconds to complete. The reopening of the same project will experience a notable increase in speed, primarily due to the caching of OpenBrIM library objects within your browser. The loading of library objects during this process generally takes less than 2-3 seconds.

Interoperability

To gain insight into the interoperability features offered by the OpenBrIM platform, which include exporting 3D models, 2D drawings, and FEA models to different file formats and syncing them after parameter changes, please refer to the following instructions.

1

→ Clicking on the "DATA" button located at the bottom-middle will shift the data spreadsheet upward, allowing the interaction with the displayed data.

→In the "Girder Bridge" section located at the lower-left corner, go to the "Export" tree view item.

2

Under the "Export File" tab of the "Export" , navigate to the spreadsheet cell labeled "Type". This cell includes the types of export actions available, such as:

i) Project Inputs
ii) 3D Model
iii) Finite Element Model
iv) 2D Drawings

→ Once you've made the selection for the export type, proceed to choose the file format.

Please note that the cell action for the file format will automatically adjust to display relevant options based on your export type selection.

3

After selecting the exported file format, it's time to set up the path for the files that are going to be exported on your local machine. If you choose your Projectwise folder, you can automatically update files after each parameter change..

→ Click on the three-dot button on any cell and select "Set Project Directory on Local Disk" from the drop-down menu to specify the main folder on your local machine.

Since the path to the main folder can vary for each project user, it will not be stored in the cloud. Instead, it will be a setting saved in your browser's cache

→ Click on "Select Folder" to choose the folder where you want the exported files to be stored. Please grant the necessary permissions to OpenBrIM Platform to access your local machine files.

→ Once the exported files are located on your local machine, navigate to the "File Name" column to provide a name for the exported files.

→ Activate the three-dot cell button again and select "Set File Name On Local Disk" from the drop-down menu.

→ From the main Project Directory that was previously set, provide a name for the file to be exported and click on the "Save" button. Additionally, you can create additional child folders here. Your path selection will be saved in the cloud this time, as child folder/paths can be the same for each project user

Observe that the specified file name and full path are written in the corresponding cells.

(Note that the full path is only partially displayed, and the main directory is not shown. This is done to facilitate synchronization on different local machines, as the main directory may vary for each project user.)

→ The final cell action accessible via the three-dot button is the "Sync to Local Disk" action, which synchronizes the exported files with the parametric model. Click on it to begin the synchronization process. You can also select multiple cells to sync all the files at once.

→ You can now see the exported files created on your local machine.

Export 3D Model ( .obj, .gltf, .ifc v4.3, .dxf, or .dgn.)

1

→ Clicking on the "DATA" button located at the bottom-middle will shift the data spreadsheet upward, allowing the interaction with the displayed data.

In the export settings, specify the export type as "3D model" and choose one of the following file formats: .obj, .gltf, .ifc v4.3, .dxf, or .dgn.

2

For 3D model DGN export, utilize the DGN export settings, which offer the choice between exporting as a mesh or a smart solid.

Return to the third step to configure the export file name and path.

Export 2D Drawings (dgn or dxf)

1

→ Clicking on the "DATA" button located at the bottom-middle will shift the data spreadsheet upward, allowing the interaction with the displayed data.

In the export settings, specify the export type as "2D model" and choose one of the following file formats: .dxf, or .dgn.

2

For the purpose of 2D drawing export, it's important to ensure that the 2D drawings are selected. This is crucial because projects contain multiple 2D CAD drawings. To select the drawings, navigate to the object column and utilize the 'Select Drawings' cell action.

Return to the third step to configure the export file name and path.

Ensure that your project includes at least one CAD drawing, and you can incorporate CAD drawings into the project using the library objects located under the CAD section.

Export FEA Model( .lar, .s2k, .b2k, .xls, .tcl, or .mct.)

1

→ Clicking on the "DATA" button located at the bottom-middle will shift the data spreadsheet upward, allowing the interaction with the displayed data.

In the export settings, specify the export type as "Finite Element Model" and choose one of the following file formats: .lar, .s2k, .b2k, .xls, .tcl, or .mct.

2

OpenBrIM supports full finite element models and exports all loads(not only nodes, shells etc) for CSI Bridge, LARSA 4D, and Midas Civil. If you encounter any issues with your data not being exported correctly, please consult OpenBrIM for assistance.

Return to the third step to configure the export file name and path.

Import FEA Model (LARSA 4D .lar, CSI Bridge .b2k, or Midas Civil .mct)

Employ FEA workflow to import finite element models defined in LARSA 4D, CSI Bridge, or Midas Civil.

Utilize the "Import" button to choose files with extensions such as .lar, .b2k, or .mct.
