Modelling of 6th Floor

Floor plan layout and loading plan of 6th floor are shown below. We are going to use following features while modeling on this floor.

→ Slab edge & slab piece

→ Slab opening

→ Copy from & Select Graphically.

→ Arbitrary & rectangular column

→ Show Tributary

→ Shear wall & analytical wall

→ Shear wall opening

→ Beam & analytical beam

→ Area loading

→ Duplicate

→ Line loading

 

  • Go to 6th Floor → Overlay

  • Select 6th Floor linked drawing

  • Click Ok

 

Drawing Slab

Slab edge geometry is the same with 7th floor. You can copy from 7th floor or draw slab edge manually.

 

  • Go to 6th Floor → Click Copy From

  • Select slabs and select 7th floor

  • Click Select Graphically

  • Select the slab edge and slab pieces

  • Press Enter

You can copy multiple (such as openings) objects at the same time.

  • Draw the remaining slab pieces with slab piece button.

Or

  • Draw slab edge using slab edge command.

  • Draw all the slab pieces using slab piece command

 

Drawing Opening

The openings are the same with the7th floor.You can copy all the openings from above or draw them manually.

  • Go to 7th Floor → Copy from

  • Select Opening objects to copy

  • Select 7th as source story

  • Click Copy All

Or

  • Go to Openings → Select Rectangular/Arbitrary

  • Draw openings

 

 

Drawing Columns

Since 6th and 5th floors are similar, floor plan is typical for these stories. Thus there is no need to overlay one lower floor plan to see the columns below.

Also columns of 7th floor are continue in 6th floor. You can copy columns (and shear walls) from 7th floor.

  • Go to 6th floor → Copy From

  • Select columns (and shear walls)

  • Select 7th Floor

  • Click Copy All

Or you can draw columns manually.

  • Draw rectangular columns by using rectangular column command.

  • Draw arbitrary and rotated rectangular columns by using arbitrary column.

Drawing Shear Walls

You can copy the shear walls from 7th floor if you did not copy with the columns or you can draw shear walls manually.

  • Go to 7th Floor → Copy From

  • Select Shear walls object to copy

  • Select Roof as source story

  • Click Copy All

  • Update the project

Or draw the shear walls.

  • Go to Shear Walls

  • Click Shear Wall

  • Draw shear wall

  • Select the material of the shear wall

  • Go to Analytical Walls

  • Click Analytical Wall

  • Draw analytical lines

You must draw a straight line from mid point of one edge to mid point of other edge of shear wall. If shear wall is not straight you must draw analytical walls for each directions of shear wall parts.

  • Enter thickness of each analytical wall

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do not forget to draw shear wall opening which has the same dimensions with 7th floor.

  • Go to analytical wall which the opening will be drawn

  • Click elevation view

  • Click Wall Opening → select rectangle shape

You must consider point locations on plan and elevation view.

  • Draw a rectangular opening with dimensions above.

  • Click Show Story to go back to plan view.

Drawing Beams

You can copy the same beams from 7th floors or you can draw the beams manually.

  • Go to 6th floor → Copy From

  • Select beams object to copy

  • Select 7th as source story

  • Click Copy All

When you copy beams, analytical beams are also copied.

Or

  • Go to Beams spreadsheet

  • Click Draw Beam

  • Draw beams from face of column/shear wall to face of column/shear wall

  • Enter the depth of the Beam

  • Select the material of the beam

  • Select beam type

If you draw beam manually, do not forget to draw analytical beams.

  • Go to Analytical Lines spreadsheet

  • Click Draw Analytical Beam

  • Draw the analytical beam line

  • Enter the width and depth of the analytical beam

 While analytical beam line command is active, joint points shear walls are become visible. Drawing analytical beam lines using these joints will be more accurate for the generation of FE model.

If the line of analytical beam does not pass through the geometric center of the column, a secondary analytical line should be drawn between the column and analytical beam line.

You can start or end the line out of the beam polygon as long as middle point is inside the polygon borders.

When the analytical lines of beams or shear walls intersect, AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite creates break point joint on the intersection point.

Drawing Load Geometry

  • Go to Loads

  • Click Area

  • Draw residential/terrace/corridor areas according to the loading schedule

You will add superimposed dead loads and live loads to the same areas but you do not need to draw again.

  • Right click on the areas in the spreadsheet

  • Duplicate areas

  • Select load cases appropriate to the loading schedule

  •  Click Line

  • Draw facade load lines and parapet load lines

  • Select load cases of the line loads.

You can overlap load areas, AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite will calculate the sum of the loads. So you can reach 100 psf live load by intersection 40 psf live load and 60 psf live load area.

You can see the loading geometry by right clicking and selecting in the AutoCAD.

Modelling of 6th floor is completed. Updated 3D view is shown below.
