Bearing [EX1-STG]

Bearing [EX1-STG]

The construction of bearings in a steel girder bridge is typically represented by two-node springs between the pier cap and the girder in a finite element analysis model. To prevent instability issues, it's usually recommended to incorporate the bearing construction stage into the girder construction stage. If the pier cap construction stage is used instead, the top node of the spring may not be connected to any elements, leading to unrestricted movement in non-fixed directions.

Please follow the instructions provided below to define construction of substructure bridge components.

1

Navigate to Loading > Construction > Substructure > Bearing

2

Click three-dots icon on Stage cell and click select.

3

Select "SubstrConstStage" as stage.

4

Click three-dots icon on Insertion Points cell and click pick.

5

Select all of the Insertion Points that were previously defined from the 3D View.

Figure will be added

6

Then click Done.

1

Navigate to Bearing under Substructure on the tree view.

2

Copy Superstructure Connection Construction from model inputs and paste into OpenBrIM.
