Analyze and Design [EX1-STG]

Analyze and Design [EX1-STG]

OpenBrIM computes billions of parametric equations to create 3D/FEA/CAD representations of the bridge based on the project inputs. Every time a parameter is changed, the compilation starts from scratch to create a 3D/FEA/CAD representation.

FEA model generation involves several steps, including node merging, meshing, nodal load generation from global loads, live load coefficient generation based on influence surfaces, wind load generation, and computation of sectional properties such as inertia or torsional constants. Once the project is ready for finite element analysis, users will be able to access the analysis button.

After the analysis has been completed, the user will be able to access the design button. The design process is used to verify whether the current bridge design complies with AASHTO or other DOT requirements. This process involves several steps, including collecting analysis results from staged construction analysis, identifying critical vehicle positions based on influence surface coefficients, calculating envelopes and combinations based on the user's requested options (such as filtering by load type, extreme effects, incremental or cumulative results), and finally computing DC ratios according to AASHTO or DOT amendments.

Following any changes to a parameter, the user has the option to either rerun the analysis or utilize previous analysis results if the parameter affects the FEA model.

If the parameter change only affects the design, the user will be presented with a design button.

After clicking the button, the user can choose to either rerun the design process or view previous results.

Please follow the instructions provided below to perform Analyze and Design.

1

Click Analyze icon and Run Analysis.

(If you have already performed an analysis and wish to use the results in the design section, simply click the 'Use Previous Analysis Results' button.)

2

Click Design icon.

OpenBrIM will also provide you with information on how long your design process takes

3

Click report icon and Design Report.

4

Switch between the Summary Report tree view and review the results.
