Main Wind Force Base Shear
The main wind force acting on each floor level and the wind base shear force are calculated by AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library object depending on the parameters entered in Wind parameters section.
AEC|BOLT Building Design Suite allows you to model parapets at each floor level and the library object considers the wind force acting on the wall and parapet at each floor level.
You should set the highlighted templates shown below from Design Criteria spreadsheet.
Go to Code Check & Design Templates for more information about importing templates from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library.
Defining Parapet
Go to Parapet spreadsheet under Wind Parameters section
Click Define Parapet
Enter the story number as 7
We will define 3ft high parapet on the perimeter of the 7th-floor slab.
Edit height of the parapets from the spreadsheet
Wind Parameters
Go to General spreadsheet of Wind Parameters section.
Enter wind speed as 98
Enter importance factor as 1
Enter topographical factor as 1
Enter directionality factor as 1
You can enter gust effect factor manually but AEC|BOLT Building Design Suite calculates the gust effect factor depending on the parameters you entered.
AEC|BOLT Building Design Suite needs wind speed, exposure category natural frequency and damping ratio to calculate the gust effect factor.
Set the ground story as 1st floor
Click Calculate Gust Factor to calculate the gust effect factor
Select the exposure category as C
Enter natural frequency as 1
Enter damping ratio as 0.02
Click Show to see detailed report
