CSI SAFE Models

CSI SAFE Models

AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite enables user to create CSI SAFE models of each story easily.

If there is a load transfer on the floor to be exported, run tributary analysis first.

In this section, we will export each floor to CSI SAFE and after analysis, we will import results back to AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite. Let’s start with the 7th floor.

  • Go to Analysis → CSI SAFE → 7th Floor

If you haven’t draw design strips;

  • Click Design Strip and draw directions

If you draw one direction line, the second direction line perpendicular to the first one will be automatically drawn. Directions will be assigned to layers automatically as shown below.

Once you draw direction you can use the same directions for each story by clicking yes for the warning below.

  • Enter Design Strip Spacing

  • Select Safe Design Rebar from the spreadsheet

  • Enter top&bottom clear cover

  • Select rebar material

  • Set Generate Columns Above True

  • Set Generate Shear Walls Above True

  • Set Foundation Wall Aboves False

  • Enter Modulus of rupture coefficient, k

  • Click update button

  • Click Export SAFE (.f2k) File and save the file

Creating export file is successfully completed if you see log.txt as in below.

Open SAFE and import .f2k file of the 7th floor as shown below.

After SAFE analysis is finished, create .f2k file of the analyzed model;

  • Go to File → Export Model → SAFE .f2k

  • Select tables as shown above

  • Save the file

  • Go to AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite

  • Click Import Safe Results

  • Select the file

You imported the results successfully if UI_Compare is as below.

Created “.f2k” files are also uploaded to AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud and are accessible only for users who are added to the project.

Now repeat the process for the remaining stories. You do not have to export both 5th and 6th floor, only one 6th floor export is enough because they are similar stories.

Foundation

The foundation model needs extra parameters to be set before exporting to CSI SAFE.

You must select which foundation objects will be exported.

  • Click Select Foundation Objects button to select the foundation objects as illustrated on the right.

  • Select all the objects

  • Select the analysis source

You must choose the source of the loads to be transferred to the foundation.

  • Set generate rigid zones as true

  • Enter design strip spacing

  • Select design rebar for CSI SAFE

  • Enter clear cover top&bottom

  • Set generate Column Aboves/ Shear Wall Aboves/ Foundation Wall Aboves as true

  • Enter modulus of rupture value

  • Enter spring mesh size in X&Y directions

  • Enter spring’s k values in X&Y directions

  • Update the project to cloud

The remaining steps are the same as exporting a floor model to CSI SAFE.
