Design Criteria

The AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud Library provides a wide range of code check and design templates for structural elements based on various building codes. In this section, you can import these templates and assign them as either design codes or verification codes. These templates serve as valuable resources for ensuring that your structural elements comply with the specific requirements and standards set by different building codes. By utilizing the imported templates, you can streamline the design and verification process, saving time and ensuring the structural integrity of your project.

You have two options to set the templates in this section:

→ Click on "Load Template Groups" to automatically import and set all the templates. This convenient feature allows you to quickly load and apply the templates without manual intervention.

or

→ Set the previously imported code check templates and design templates manually. You can select and assign the desired templates manually, following the instructions provided in Figure 2. This gives you more control and flexibility in customizing the template selection according to your specific project requirements.

You can import various structural objects for code checks, design, seismic analysis, and wind analysis from the AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud database. These objects are available in different template categories:

  1. Code Check Templates: These templates include code check objects based on different building codes. You can import and use them to perform code compliance checks for structural elements.

  2. Design Templates: These templates contain design objects for structural elements. You can import and utilize them to assist in the design process of your project.

  3. Seismic Parameters: By importing seismic coefficients and seismic design factors from the AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud database, you can incorporate seismic analysis into your structural design.

  4. Wind Parameters: The computation of wind parameters is described in the "Wind Parameters" section. Here, you can access the necessary information and guidelines to calculate wind loads and incorporate them into your structural design.

  5. In order to view and edit the minimum reinforcement criteria for slab/shearwall members, you can click on the "Show" button on the corresponding row, as shown in Figure 3. This action will open a spreadsheet displaying the minimum reinforcement criteria, with default values based on ACI 318-14 code provisions (Figure 4).

In the spreadsheet, you have the flexibility to modify the minimum reinforcement values according to your project requirements.

If any changes made to the minimum reinforcement criteria violate the requirements specified in ACI 318-14, the corresponding cell will be highlighted in red, as shown in Figure 5. This visual indication helps identify any illegal modifications.

If you wish to revert the changes and return to the default ACI 318-14 values, you can simply click on the "Return to ACI 318-14 Values" button, as depicted in Figure 4. This action will restore the original criteria as per the ACI 318-14 provisions.

Once you have finished making all the necessary changes or decided to retain the default values, you can proceed by clicking the "Back" button, as illustrated in Figure 4. This will navigate you back to the previous section, allowing you to continue with your design process while incorporating the modified or default minimum reinforcement criteria.

By leveraging these resources from the AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud database, you can enhance the efficiency of your structural analysis and design process.
