Seismic Base Shear
Seismic base shear acting on the building is calculated by AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library object depending on the parameters entered in Seismic Parameters Spreadsheet.
You should import the seismic base shear calculation object and seismic design category determination object from the AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud. There are 2 versions of both objects in the cloud. We will use the objects based on NYCBC 2014.
Go to https://aecbolt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BDS/pages/369295500 for more information about importing data from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud.
You must set the highlighted templates shown below in the Design Criteria spreadsheet.
Go to Seismic Parameters spreadsheet
Click Import Seismic Coefficients
Select New York Region
Click Import to import regional coefficients such as Ss, S1 and long term period from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud.
Click Import Seismic Design Factors
Select B5 - Ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls to import response modification coefficient, overstrength factor, and deflection amplification from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud.
These two features enable you to set the necessary seismic parameters quickly as demonstrated below.
The ground story level is a necessity for AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud object to determine the seismic design category automatically as illustrated above.
Select the ground story as 1st floor
Select the site class as D
The seismic design category will be determined as “B” which is given on the https://aecbolt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BDS/pages/358645786 page.
Click Show to see the detailed report about seismic base shear acting on the building as demonstrated below
