Create New Project

Within the OpenBrIM Platform, there are a few options available to start a new project. You can use the

Additionally, you have the ability to categorize your projects and group them under the same folder.

OpenBrIM Templates: The OpenBrIM Templates consist of standard templates that have been developed by OpenBrIM engineers, as well as templates created by other authors that have been selected to become a part of the standard template collection.

Templates From Authors: Templates from Authors refer to templates that have been created by members of the OpenBrIM community but have not yet been selected to become part of the standard template collection.

What is an OpenBrIM Template?

An OpenBrIM Template is a collection of various library components in the Platform that work together to accomplish a specific task. For example, a template may be created for building the superstructure and substructure of a steel bridge while also integrating loading and code check functionalities. By removing unnecessary library components from the UI and organizing the workflow in a logical manner, templates streamline the project creation process.

What kind of user interface (UI) changes occur when you switch between two different templates?

When switching between two different workflows, the most notable changes to the user interface (UI) are typically in the tree view and the library components(each item in the tree view represents a library component) displayed within it.

For example, in the screenshot below, the main difference between the workflows for Steel I Girder and Tub Girder bridges is the presence of cross-frame objects, bottom flange stiffeners (only in Tub Girder), and girder components.

Is it possible to customize/improve the standard template to meet my project's unique requirements if I cannot find the required library object in the standard template?

Yes, OpenBrIM engineers assist enterprise clients in enhancing/customizing library objects to meet project requirements at no extra cost. Community space users can also introduce new library components and subsequently incorporate these library objects into standard workflows by utilizing the search icon located above the treeview.

How do you decide which library objects are standard for the template? What is the standardization process?
Our standardization process consists of two steps: first, creating the library object for the actual project of our enterprise customer, and then making a decision regarding standardization:
OpenBrIM engineers begin by working with enterprise clients using standard parametric library components. Whenever customized library objects are created based on client requirements within their private workspace, OpenBrIM engineers evaluate whether these library objects can become standard for this bridge type and be helpful for all similar projects. If the answer is yes, then the new custom objects become the standard objects for the template.

If the enterprise client develops the library object themselves or classifies it as private based on their agency contract requirements, even if it's developed by an OpenBrIM developer, then, due to our privacy policy, this object will never become part of the standard templates.

How can I group bridges of different types (OpenBrIM Template) that belong to the same physical project, as defined by your clients (agencies), into a single folder or location for organizational purposes?

You can use the category feature that you see during project creation. Then, you can proceed to share each project with your team members.
