Data Window

The Data bar allows you to toggle the display of the workflow treeview and spreadsheet, showing or hiding them as needed. This area serves as the primary input location for users working on their projects.

Tree view: Every item within the tree view corresponds to a library object. When a user clicks on a tree view item, the necessary parameters for creating that library object are displayed in the spreadsheet. Typically, templates organize library objects in the tree view with an intuitive format that follows the thought process of bridge engineers, starting with the alignment and ending with specification checks and report objects. Additionally, please note that there may be variations between each template's treeview.

When switching between two different workflows, the most notable changes to the user interface (UI) are typically in the tree view and the library components(each item in the tree view represents a library component) displayed within it.

For example, in the screenshot below, the main difference between the workflows for Steel I Girder and Tub Girder bridges is the presence of cross-frame objects, bottom flange stiffeners (only in Tub Girder), and girder components.

Spreadsheet: OpenBrIM primarily utilizes spreadsheets to gather inputs, leveraging the familiarity of Excel spreadsheets for engineers. We have incorporated several familiar spreadsheet functionalities into OpenBrIM, including drag-and-drop capabilities, cross-referencing cells, and parametric computations.

You can refer to the following table to gain an understanding of parameter entry in data window.

1

Click Info icon and the workflow parameters page related to the objects will be opened in a new tab.

2

Cell Actions: Click the three-dot icon on the selected cell, row, or column to display a list of applicable cell actions for the selection. The available features in these lists may vary based on the functions of the parametric object associated with each selection. Typically, these features are helpful for assigning parametric values for the selected cell.

3

To copy a cell to multiple others, select it and then drag and drop from the fill handle of the cell

4

Switch between cells on the spreadsheet using the arrow buttons or tab on the keyboard.

5

Header Cell Actions: Click the three-dot icon in the first column header to increase or decrease decimal places. Updating the decimal places setting will apply the change to all spreadsheets.

Click the three-dot icon in the headers of other columns to filter and sort.

6

Click Undo icon at the top bar to reverse the last entry

1

To adjust the vertical area of the spreadsheet, simply drag and drop the Data bar. Similarly, you can relocate the related tree view bar horizontally by dragging it.
