Barrier

Section: To create a custom section for the barrier, the section editor can be used. The weight of the barrier will be computed based on the area of the assigned section. When applying wind loads, the depth of the barrier is important.
Users can utilize the concrete material without changing the stiffness value and construct the barrier under the superstructure attachment construction with options "stiffness=no" and "weight factor=1".

Orientation[Left/Right]: The orientation of the barrier should be set as "left" for the barriers placed on the left end of the deck and "right" for those placed on the right end to rotate the barrier section accordingly.

Deck: Upon selecting the connected deck, the barrier will be placed on top of it and the vertical elevation will be adjusted accordingly.

Start Station Option[Deck Start/Input]: If you want to automatically assign start station to the deck start, select 'Deck Start'. If your barrier starts at different locations along the PGL, choose 'Input'.

Start Station: If the "Start Station Option" is defined as 'Input,' this column can be used to specify the barriers' start station. Otherwise, this parameter will be marked as N/A (Not Applicable).

Start Skew: This parameter can be used to define the skew angle of the barrier at start station.

End Station Option[Deck Start/Input]: If you want to automatically assign end station to the deck end, select 'Deck End'. If your barrier ends at different locations along the PGL, choose 'Input'.

End Station: If the "End Station Option" is defined as 'Input,' this column can be used to specify the barriers' end station. Otherwise, this parameter will be marked as N/A (Not Applicable).

End Skew: This parameter can be used to define the skew angle of the barrier at end station.

Start Transverse Location [Left/Right] :The transverse station is defined relative to the PGL, where the PGL location is 0. When the user clicks on the three dots cell, the "Set to Left or Right" options appear, which enable the barrier to be positioned quickly at the exterior end of the deck.

End Transverse Location [Left/Right]: The transverse station is defined relative to the PGL, where the PGL location is 0. When the user clicks on the three dots cell, the "Set to Left or Right" options appear, which enable the barrier to be positioned quickly at the exterior end of the deck.

Transverse Offset Left/Right Options

The positive direction of the Y-axis will be to the left when looking upstream along the PGL. However, based on the requests of engineers who have been using OpenBrIM for their bridge projects, positive transverse offset values will indicate the right-hand side when looking upstream along the PGL. This distinction should be taken into account when defining the location of bridge elements using transverse offset values (where positive transverse offset indicates the right side), as well as when making definitions related to FEM and loading (where positive Fy indicates the left side along the PGL).

 

Quantities

Section Area: The cross-sectional area, calculated based on the definitions of the object, is presented to the user under this column.

Total Surface Area: The surface area, calculated based on the definitions of the object, is presented to the user under this column.

Cross Section Perimeter: Based on the definitions made by the user, the perimeter of the cross section present is calculated and presented to the user under this column.

Volume: The volume of the object is calculated based on the definitions made by the user and presented under this column.

Min Length Path: The minimum length along the modeled object is presented to the user under this column.

Length @COG Path: The length along the modeled object's center of gravity is presented to the user under this column.

Max Length Path: The maximum length along the modeled object is presented to the user under this column.

Weight: By taking into account the modeled object’s quantity and assigned material, the weight of the object is calculated and presented to the user under this column.
