Materials [EX1-CUG]

Please follow the instructions provided below to set material definitions to be used in this bridge example.

1

Navigate to Properties > Materials

2

To import a material, click on the three-dot icon located on the first cell of the Name and select "Import Material".

3

Import following materials from OpenBrIM Library

  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Steel Material Database (US) > Reinforcement Steel > A615_60

  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Steel Material Database (US) > Structural Steel > A709_50W

4
  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Concrete Material Database (US) > US AASHTO > Fc_3_1/2ksi

  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Concrete Material Database (US) > US AASHTO > Fc_4ksi

  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Concrete Material Database (US) > US AASHTO > Fc_5

  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Concrete Material Database (US) > US AASHTO > Fc_6ksi

5
  • OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Steel Material Database (US) > Prestressing Steel > Grade270_lowrelaxation

6

Each material type comes with a default curve, which you can view from this menu. If you need to customize it, you can introduce a new library component. To assign a different curve, simply select it from the selection box. These curves will be used to compute the section capacity based on the strain compatibility method.

To view a sample of these default curves, follow these steps:

Click on the three dots in the first cell of "A615_60" and select Edit
Click on "Stress/Strain Model" from combobox and modify the parameter.

As you change the "Stress/Strain Model" parameter, it will be noticed that the "Stress/Strain Curve" also changes accordingly.
For more detailed information, click on this link.

7

To introduce a new material, add a new row and specify RigidMaterial as its name.

As a general practice, make sure to set the unit weight of rigid materials to “0”.

8

Copy and paste the data below for the RigidMaterial.

RigidMaterial 29000.00 0.30 11153.85 0.00 6.00 concrete Mander Concrete

Completed material definitions are illustrated below.
