Lateral Bracing [STG]

Lateral Bracing [STG]

Inputs

Girder: Specify the girder(s) for which lateral bracing will be generated on/in between.

Left Web Station: Specify the station for the bracing on the left side when looking upstation along the PGL. The station is measured relative to the PGL.

Right Web Station: Specify the station for the bracing on the right side when looking upstation along the PGL. The station is measured relative to the PGL.

Section: Assign a section for the bracing.

Lateral Bracing Offset from Girder Web Center: For visual representation, refer to the figure below.

Left Web Longitudinal Offset: For visual representation, refer to the figure below.

Right Web Longitudinal Offset: For visual representation, refer to the figure below.

Orientation Angle: This parameter can be used to define the orientation angle of the bracing.

Vertical Offset from Top of Web [Top Flange/Bottom Flange]: The vertical location of the bracing can either be specified relative to the top or bottom flange of the related girder, or it can be defined using specific values set by this parameter.A positive value will shift the lateral bracing downward, in the direction of gravity.

Gusset Plate

Plate Thickness: The thickness of the plate can be adjusted by this parameter.

# of Bolts (Long.): The number of bolts in the longitudinal direction of the gusset plates can be adjusted by this parameter.

# of Bolts (Trans.): The number of bolts in the transverse direction of the gusset plates can be adjusted by this parameter.

Bolt Spacing (Long.): The spacing of the bolts in the longitudinal direction can be defined by this parameter.

Bolt Spacing (Trans.): The spacing of the bolts in the transverse direction can be defined by this parameter.

Bolt Spacing @ Center (Long.): The spacing of the bolts in the longitudinal direction at the center can be adjusted by this parameter. For a visual representation, refer to the figures below.

Bolt Edge Distance (Long.): The clear distance between bolts in the longitudinal direction and the plate edge can be defined using this parameter.

Bolt Edge Distance (Trans.): The clear distance between bolts in the transverse direction and the plate edge can be defined using this parameter.

Gusset Plate Bolt Property: A previously defined bolt property under Properties - Bolt Property can be assigned to gusset plates by this parameter.

Plate Distance Outside Flange (Trans.): The length of the portion of the plates outside the flange can be defined using this parameter.

Corner Chamfer: The corner chamfer can be defined using this parameter. For visual representation, refer to the figure below.

Show Bolts (Detailing) [YES/NO]: If this parameter is set to 'NO,' the bolts will not be displayed. Otherwise, the bolts will be shown within the model. However, enabling this option increases the triangulation number, leading to slower performance. To reduce compile time, disabling the detailing option can be helpful.

Plate Material: A material can be assigned to the plates. A material can either be imported or assigned from previously defined ones under Properties - Materials.

FEA

Connection [Top node of web / Bottom node of web]:Users can specify whether the lateral bracing is connected at the top nodes or the bottom nodes of the girders by defining this parameter.

Axial Rigidity Coefficient: This parameter can be used to define the axial rigidity of the bracing.
