Please follow the instructions provided below to define wind loads according to AASHTO.

Navigate to Loads > Wind Load > Wind Load AASHTO

Click three-dots icon on Stage cell and click select.

Select the Stage to “WindStructureStage” from the combobox.

Assign “Span Height Variation” as “No”

Click three-dots icon on Structural Objects And Pressure Parameters cell and click Edit.

In this section, you need to define the parameters of the objects affected by the wind. To achieve this, select the outermost elements, specifically those that have the first contact with the wind.

The 'Structural Height From Ground Line' parameter represents the distance between the apex of the element, where the wind acts, and the ground.

Click three-dots icon on Applied Elements cell and click pick (or select).


Pick outermost of the elements that were previously defined from the 3D View to affects the wind load.

You must also assign the prevailing incoming direction of the wind.

This information is vital in accurately simulating and analyzing the effects of wind loads on the structure.

After selecting the wind directions,

 

Enter the values of the "Structural Height From Ground Line [ft]" parameter according to the project.

Enter the "Gust Effect Factor" and "Drag Coefficient" parameters of the elements as in the figure.

Navigate back to Params tab.

Enter the Design Wind Speed (mph) and Surface Roughness parameters as in the figure according to AASHTO 9th.

Navigate to Wind Load AASHTO under Loads on the tree view.

Copy related Params from model inputs and paste into OpenBrIM.
