Policy and procedures for testing the OpenBrIM Platform

This document outlines the policy and procedures for testing the OpenBrIM Platform. The purpose of testing is to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the OpenBrIM Platform.

  1. Testing Objectives

    1. Validate the functionality and features of the OpenBrIM Platform and Library objects.

      1. OpenBrIM Core Functions

      2. OpenBrIM.FEA

      3. Specification Checks

      4. Bridge Workflows

    2. Identify and report defects or issues.

    3. Verify the compatibility of the platform with different operating systems, browsers, and devices.

    4. Evaluate the performance and scalability of the platform.

    5. Ensure the security and data integrity of the platform.

    6. Validate the compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

  2. Testing Types

    1. Functional Testing: Verify that the OpenBrIM Platform functions according to the specified requirements.

    2. Usability Testing: Assess the user-friendliness and ease of navigation of the platform.

    3. Compatibility Testing: Ensure the compatibility of the platform across different browsers, operating systems, and devices.

    4. Performance Testing: Evaluate the responsiveness, speed, and scalability of the platform under varying loads and stress conditions.

    5. Security Testing: Identify and address potential security vulnerabilities and risks.

    6. Regression Testing: Validate the existing functionality after changes or updates have been made.

    7. Integration Testing: Verify the seamless integration of the OpenBrIM Platform with other systems or APIs.

  3. Testing Process

    1. Test Planning: i. Define test objectives, scope, and testing priorities. ii. Identify the target user groups and scenarios. iii. Determine the required test environments and resources. iv. Create test plans and test cases.

    2. Selection of Real Bridge Projects: i. Identify a diverse set of real bridge projects that represent various design scenarios, structural types, and complexities. ii. Ensure that the selected bridge projects cover different bridge types and adhere to relevant design codes and standards.

    3. Test Execution: i. Execute test cases based on the test plans. ii. Record and document test results, including any defects or issues encountered. iii. Prioritize and report defects using a designated defect tracking system. iv. Retest resolved defects to ensure proper resolution.

    4. Test Reporting: i. Generate test reports summarizing the testing activities, results, and metrics. ii. Provide clear and concise information regarding the status of testing and any outstanding issues. iii. Communicate the test reports to relevant stakeholders.

  4. Test Environment

    1. Maintain a dedicated and isolated test environment to prevent interference with production systems.

    2. Ensure the availability of necessary hardware, software, and network infrastructure for testing.

    3. Regularly update and configure the test environment to reflect the production environment accurately.

  5. Test Data Management

    1. Create and maintain test data sets that cover various scenarios and edge cases.

    2. Ensure the availability of realistic and representative test data to simulate real-world usage.

    3. Protect sensitive or confidential data used during testing to maintain data privacy and security.

  6. Collaboration and Communication

    1. Foster effective collaboration and communication among testers, developers, and other stakeholders.

    2. Conduct regular meetings and status updates to discuss testing progress, issues, and resolutions.

    3. Provide clear and timely communication regarding test results, risks, and recommendations.

  7. Continuous Improvement

    1. Review and analyze testing processes and results to identify areas for improvement.

    2. Incorporate feedback from users, stakeholders, and support teams to enhance the testing process.

    3. Stay updated with the latest testing methodologies, tools, and industry best practices.

  8. Compliance and Documentation

    1. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.

    2. Document all testing activities, including test plans, test cases, test data, and test reports.

    3. Maintain an audit trail of testing activities for future reference or compliance purposes.

  9. Training and Skill Development

    1. Provide training and workshops to testers to enhance their testing skills and knowledge.

    2. Encourage professional development and certification in software testing.

  10. Change Management

    1. Collaborate with the development team to understand and test new features, enhancements, or bug fixes.

    2. Perform regression testing after each release or change to ensure the stability and integrity of the platform.

  11. Test Exit Criteria

    1. Define clear exit criteria for each testing phase or cycle.

    2. Ensure that all critical defects have been addressed and retested before the release.
