Wind Force Calculation

Wind force is calculated by the AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library object.

The computation of wind force is based on ASCE 7-05, Chapter 6, “Method 2 - Analytical Procedure” (6.5).

The steps of calculation are as follows;

  1. Velocity pressure exposure coefficients Kz or Kh are determined at each floor level and at the top level of each parapet.

  2. Internal pressure coefficient GCpi is determined.

  3. External pressure coefficients Cp are determined for windward and leeward directions.

  4. Velocity pressure qz or qh is determined for each floor level and for each parapet.

  5. Design wind pressure p is determined for diaphrams and parapets in windward and leeward directions at each floor level.

  6. Design wind forces are calculated in accordance with ASCE 7-05 cases as shown in Figure 1.

AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library object create a total of 12 sets for Case 1, Case 2, Case 3 and Case 4 mentioned above to implement the variations of each load case. The flow of the wind force report document is shown in Figure 2
