Lines

  • Line object represents a two-noded member in a finite element model.

  • OpenBrIM app currently supports : Beam, Truss, Compression Truss, Tension Truss, Cable and Inelastic Line type of two-node finite elements.

  • Modeling a line requires two nodes. User may fill the table by entering desired node names manually or the ”Pick Nodes” command can be used.

  • Lines can be broken into multiple segments by using command “Break”. Doing so, OpenBrIM creates new required node and line objects.

  • Lines are representation of real life three dimensional objects. Hence, they require “Section” parameter. Section attribute contains properties such as depth, width, inertia etc. which are essential in FEA.

  • User can assign a section to a Line object either by defining a new one or by calling from OpenBrIM database.

  • To create a section there should be at least one material defined in the project.

  • After Section attribute is selected for a Line object there are multiple configurations user can change such as Beta Angle and Local Axis Orientation.

Global Offset:

  • Offset of an end node with respect to the global coordinate system.

  • Changing nodal offset does not change the location of corresponding node. Instead, line object is effected solely.

Local Offset:

  • Offset of an end node with respect to the related line orientation

  • Changing nodal offset does not change the location of corresponding node. Instead, line object is effected solely.
