To generate moment-curvature reports and obtain Crack Inertia and Hinge Property data for seismic design, the Moment-Curvature Object can be utilized.

While all sections can be used to generate moment-curvature curves in the Section Editor, this object is specifically designed to provide data for seismic analysis. For further explanation, refer to Properties > Sections .

As outlined above, after defining the section, reinforcements, materials, and loads with the parameters listed below, the report can be accessed through the DOCS button on the left-hand side toolbar. This report will present the user with Confined Concrete Strength/Strain values, Cracked Inertia Values, and Hinge Property Data, which can be further used in other related objects for seismic design.

The defined reports can be accessed through the DOCS button located in the left-hand sidebar.

Section

Section Type[Circle/Oblong]: The section type can be specified with one of the two options provided: Circle and Oblong.

Outside Diameter: If the section type is defined as 'Circle,' the outer diameter for the section to be examined can be specified using this parameter. Otherwise, this parameter will be not applicable (N/A).

Section Overall Width: If the section type is defined as 'Oblong,' this parameter can be used to define the geometry of the section. Otherwise, this parameter will be considered not applicable (N/A).

Section Height: For oblong sections, the section height can be specified. In the case of a section defined as 'Circle,' this parameter will be considered not applicable (N/A).

Cover Thickness: The cover thickness for a section can be defined by this parameter.

Longitudinal Bar Size: Longitudinal Bar Size can be specified with the options: #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11, #14, #18.

Transverse Bar Size: Transverse Bar Size can be specified with the options: #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11, #14, #18.

Number of Longitudinal Bar Bundle: The number of longitudinal bar bundles can be specified using this parameter.

Number of Bars Per Bundle: This parameter can be used to specify the quantity of reinforcing bars (rebar) contained within each bundle

Gross Section Area (readonly): With the provided section information, the gross area of the section is calculated and shown to the user.

Confined Core Area (readonly): With the provided section information, the confined core area of the section is calculated and shown to the user.

Longitudinal Steel Area (readonly): With the provided section information, the longitudinal steel area of the section is calculated and shown to the user.

Longitudinal Reinforcement Steel Ratio % (readonly): With the provided section information, the longitudinal reinforcement steel ratio of the section is calculated and shown to the user.

Concrete Material

28 Day Concrete Compressive Strength: Compressive strength of concrete at day 28.

Concrete Elastic Modulus: The elastic modulus of the concrete can be specified using this parameter.

Rebar Material

Longitudinal Reinforcing Bar Yield Stress: The yield stress of the longitudinal reinforcing bars indicates the maximum stress that the bars can withstand without permanent deformation, and this parameter can be used to specify the yield stress of the longitudinal bars used in the section.

Longitudinal Reinforcing Bar Fracture Stress: The fracture stress of the longitudinal reinforcing bars is the stress level at which the bars will fail or break under load. This parameter can be used to specify this value.

Steel Standard and Grade[ASTMA706Grade60/ASTMA706Grade80]: Steel standard and grade can be defined using the provided options.

Circular Hoop-Spiral Confinement Details

Type of Transverse Reinforcing[Circular Hoop/Spirals]: This parameter specifies the configuration of transverse reinforcement used in the element.

Transverse Reinforcing Bar Yield Stress: The yield stress of the transverse reinforcing bars indicates the maximum stress that these bars can withstand without permanent deformation and can be specified using this parameter

Spacing of Transverse Reinforcement: The spacing of the transverse reinforcement can be specified using this parameter.

Transverse Reinforcing Steel Strain at Fracture: The transverse reinforcing steel strain at fracture is the amount of deformation (strain) that the transverse reinforcing bars can undergo before they fail or break under load. This parameter can be used to specify this value.

Maximum Confined Concrete Crushing Strain: The maximum confined concrete crushing strain refers to the maximum deformation experienced by the concrete under lateral confinement provided by the transverse reinforcement, and it can be specified using this parameter.

Transverse Reinforcement Volumetric Ratio X-dir. (readonly): The calculated volumetric ratios in the X-direction for transverse reinforcement are presented to the user in the corresponding cells of this column.

Axial Forces

Axial Forces: The axial forces that will be considered for moment-curvature analysis can be specified using this parameter

Moment Curvature Analysis Settings

Resistance Factor Tension Controlled Section: The coefficient of the resistance factor for the tension-controlled part of a section can be specified using this parameter.

Resistance Factor Compression Controlled Section: The coefficient of the resistance factor for the compression-controlled part of a section can be specified using this parameter.

Number of Refinement for Moment-Curvature Analysis: A larger number of refinements will result in more accurate but more time-consuming calculations for moment curvature. A smaller value will lead to less accurate but faster computations. This value can be increased or decreased according to the user’s analysis needs.

Number of Points for Moment-Curvature Curve: This parameter can be specified to generate a detailed moment-curvature curve. A larger number of points will result in a more detailed moment curvature.
