Pier Caps [EX1-SIG]

After clicking on 'Substructure> Pier> Pier Cap' in the navigation treeview, follow the steps to define the Pier Cap. You can use the collapsed documentation page below for more information on the explanations of each parameter.

Click the three-dots icon on the Location cell, and then set Pier2.

As a result of these operations, an issue will appear on the OpenBrIM screen. This does not necessarily mean that any operation was done incorrectly. The issue will be resolved when the pier cap section is define in the next step.

When encountering the warning as seen in OpenBrIM app, there is a "issue" , it is advised to review the parameters you have provided. This warning suggests that there might be a missing or incorrect parameter in your input. Check inputs to ensure they are accurate and complete.

When a warning is clicked, the reason can be displayed. The warning is expressed in the format of Component Group Name (can be viewed in the treeview) > User Defined Component Name (can be viewed in the spreadsheet name column) > Parameter Name (can be viewed in the spreadsheet column header).

After clicking on 'Superstructure > Connections > Bolted Field Splice' in the tree view, navigate to the Bolt category. Set the Bolt Property input. The issue will be resolved after these steps.

Click three-dots icon on the Straight-Tapered Section / Length cell and click Edit.

Enter the Section Length as 6.

Click three-dots icon on Start Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Taper.

If you have reached this stage and you don't have a section to select, and if you want to use the Import Button, you can refer to the Quick Tip.

Quick Tip: Learn how to import sections If there is no section to be set, follow the steps below: - Click the three dots on the cell and select Import Section. - In the opened window, choose the section. - Click the Import button.

Click three-dots icon on End Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Mid.

Move to the second row.

Enter the Section Length as 36.5.

Click three-dots icon on Start Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Mid.

Click three-dots icon on End Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Mid.

Move to the third row.

Enter the Section Length as 6.

Click three-dots icon on Start Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Mid.

Click three-dots icon on End Section cell and select a Section as PierCapRec_Taper.

Click the three-dots icon on the Slope Option cell, and then set ALignment.

Enter the Top Elevation Offset from Alignment as -10.

Keep the Transverse Offset, Longitudinal Offset and Section Type as default.

Quick Tip: Transverse Offset Offset values use PGL as the reference point.

Keep the Circular-Parabolic Variation as default.

Keep the FEM as default.

Keep the Longitudinal Reinforcement as default.

Keep the Visual Settings as default.

Set name as PierCap1.

When the steps are completed, the shared screenshot displayed in the adjacent cell should be visible in the 3D view of OpenBrIM.

To model all the pier cap, copy the data below and paste the parameters into the first cell in OpenBrIM spreadsheet. Refer to the quick tip for an easy guide on how to perform the copy operation. After completing the copy, proceed to the next step to verify the model.

Quick Tip: Learn how to Copy inputs to OpenBrIM Copy the desired data with the automatic copy button in the upper left corner. Click on the first cell in and use the Ctrl+V shortcut to paste. If icon won’t appear, collapse page tree menu by clicking on arrow or using shortcut “[”. While pasting large data, it would be handy to turn of Auto-refresh .
