This part is to inform about the general purposes of section definitions.


Please follow the instructions provided below to set section definitions to be used in this bridge example.

Step 1: Adding Sections to the Project

Navigate to Properties > Sections

To import a section, click on the three-dot icon located on the first cell of the Name and select "Import Section".

Select OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Precast I Girder Sections > FDOT I BEAMS > AASHTO_TYPE_III_BEAM

Assign Material as: Fc_6ksi

Select OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Basic Sections > Basic Shapes > Circle

Enter Radius as 18 in import section editor.

Click Import

Assign Material as Fc_4ksi

(If the material Fc_4ksi is already assigned by default, there is no need to assign it again)

Rename this section as Circle_exist_shaft_EB

Repeat the same steps from 6 to 10 for the other basic section.

  • Radius: 24

Rename this section as Circle_exist_shaft_Pier

Assign Material as Fc_4ksi

Repeat the same steps from 6 to 10 for the other basic section.

  • Radius: 18

Rename this section as Circle_exist_column

Assign Material as Fc_5_1/2ksi

Repeat the same steps from 6 to 10 for the other basic section.

  • Radius: 24

Rename this section as Circle_prop_column

Assign Material as Fc_5_1/2ksi

Repeat the same steps from 6 to 10 for the other basic section.

Enter Witdh and Depth

  • Width: 44

  • Depth: 40

Rename this section as Rectangle_exist_EBcap

Assign Material as Fc_5_1/2ksi

Repeat the same steps from 6 to 10 for the other basic section.

Enter Witdh and Depth

  • Width: 48

  • Depth: 40

Rename this section as PierCap_exist

Assign Material as Fc_5_1/2ksi

Select OpenBrIM Bridge Objects > Barrier Sections > General > SingleSlopeRight

Enter Bottom & Top Witdh and Depth

  • Top Width: 10

  • Bottom Width: 18

  • Depth: 32

Rename this section as Exist_Barrier_sw

Assign Material as Fc_3_2ksi_NoStiffness

To access section editor click on the relevant cell in the "Name" column and select it from the combobox.

Click on the blue circular box that appears after clicking the section shape, and Click Points Spreadsheet from the combobox.

Create a new section by defining its name as RigidSection

Completed Sections definitions are illustrated below.


Step 2: Adding Rebars and Strands to the Section

This step involves providing details of the rebars and tendons in the section.

Please follow the instructions provided below to set rebar and tendon detailing for AASHTO_TYPE_III_BEAM

From any cell of the AASHTO_TYPE_III_BEAM row, click on three-dots icon to open Section Editor panel.

Click + icon at the left top side of the screen.

And Select Rebar

Enter:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No8

  • Material: A615_60

  • Reference Edge: Top

  • Dist. … Outer Surface of Rebar: 2

  • Outer Rebar Spacing: 4

  • Inner Rebar Spacing: 4

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 4

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.

Enter:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No8

  • Material: A615_60

  • Reference Edge: Bottom

  • Dist. … Outer Surface of Rebar: 2

  • Outer Rebar Spacing: 2

  • Inner Rebar Spacing: 2

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 8

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.

Click + icon at the left top side of the screen.

And Select Tendon

Enter:

  • Material: A416_270low_relaxation

  • Reference Edge: Bottom

  • Dist. …Ref Edge and CL Tendon: 4

  • Outer Tendon Spacing: 3

  • Inner Tendon Spacing: 4

  • Strand: Grade270_3_8_No9

  • Strand Count: 1

  • # of Tendon @ Row: 1

Click Add.

Enter:

  • Material: A416_270low_relaxation

  • Reference Edge: Bottom

  • Dist. …Ref Edge and CL Tendon: 6

  • Outer Tendon Spacing: 2.5

  • Inner Tendon Spacing: 2.5

  • Strand: Grade270_3_8_No9

  • Strand Count: 1

  • # of Tendon @ Row: 6

Click Add.

Enter:

  • Material: A416_270low_relaxation

  • Reference Edge: Bottom

  • Dist. …Ref Edge and CL Tendon: 6

  • Outer Tendon Spacing: 2.5

  • Inner Tendon Spacing: 2.5

  • Strand: Grade270_3_8_No9

  • Strand Count: 1

  • # of Tendon @ Row: 6

Click Add.


Please follow the instructions provided below to set rebar detailing for Circle_exist_column

From any cell of the Circle_exist_column row, click on three-dots icon to open Section Editor panel.

Click + icon at the left top side of the screen.

And Select Rebar

Navigate to the "Circular Layout" tab

Enter:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No11

  • Material: A615_60

  • Radius 1: 14

  • Radius 2: 14

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 20

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.



Please follow the instructions provided below to set rebar detailing for Rectangle_exist_EBcap

From any cell of the Rectangle_exist_EBcap row, click on three-dots icon to open Section Editor panel.

Click + icon at the left top side of the screen.

And Select Rebar

Navigate to the "Draw Rebar Points" tab

Enter:

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 4

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.

Manually top position the rebar line within the section. And set data as follows:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No9

  • Material: A615_60

Click Apply.

Click … icon shown on created rebar.

Click Points Spreadsheet.

Copy the data below.

-16.5000	0.0000
16.5000	0.0000

Repeat the previous steps to define the Rebar into the Section

Select Rebar

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 2

  • # of Rows: 2

Click Add.

Manually middle position the rebar line within the section. And set data as follows:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No6

  • Material: A615_60

Click Apply.

Click … icon shown on created rebar.

Click Points Spreadsheet.

Copy the data below.

16.5000	0.0000

Select Rebar

Enter:

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 4

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.

Manually bottom position the rebar line within the section. And set data as follows:

Click Apply.

Click … icon shown on created rebar.

Click Points Spreadsheet.

From any cell of the PierCap_exist row, click on three-dots icon to open Section Editor panel.

Click + icon at the left top side of the screen.

Navigate to the "Draw Rebar Points" tab

Enter:

  • # of Rebars (per Row): 9

  • # of Rows: 1

Click Add.

Manually top position the rebar line within the section. And set data as follows:

  • Profile: ASTMA615No11

  • Material: A615_60

Click Apply.

Click … icon shown on created rebar.

Click Points Spreadsheet.

Copy the data below.
