Barrier

Section: To create a custom section for the barrier, the section editor can be used. The weight of the barrier will be computed based on the area of the assigned section. When applying wind loads, the depth of the barrier is important. When selecting the section material, it is important to consider the following logic:During staged construction analysis, bridge owners typically choose not to consider the stiffness of the barriers to be conservative and only take their weight into account. However, when applying wind loads, the elements must be constructed with their stiffness. If wind load application is required for the project, the concrete material must be duplicated and assigned a small modulus of elasticity (e.g., 1) to construct the element with its stiffness. Using a small stiffness value will create the expected behavior. If wind load application is not required for the project, such as in load rating models, users
Users can utilize the concrete material without changing the stiffness value and construct the barrier under the superstructure attachment construction with options "stiffness=no" and "weight factor=1".

Orientation: The orientation of the barrier should be set as "left" for the barriers placed on the left end of the deck and "right" for those placed on the right end to rotate the barrier section accordingly.

Deck: Upon selecting the connected deck, the barrier will be placed on top of it and the vertical elevation will be adjusted accordingly.

Start Transverse Location [in] - End Transverse Location [in]: The transverse station is defined relative to the PGL, where the PGL location is 0. When the user clicks on the three dots cell, the "Set to Left or Right" options appear, which enable the barrier to be positioned quickly at the exterior end of the deck.

Start - End Station Option[Deck Start/Input]: If you want to automatically assign start and end stations to the deck start and end, select 'Deck Start' for both. If your barrier starts and ends at different locations along the PGL, choose 'Input'
