Load Classes
Load Classes classify loads to be multiplied by factors in the load combination section. (It is analogous to “Load Case” in most of the FEM softwares.)
Load classifications are added from load classes section as shown below.Self Weight class is being created automatically at the start of project. Add more load classes.
Go to Load Classes → Add
Choose the load class abbreviation for each added load class
Add SDL
Add L
Add L_Assembly
Add Lr
Add L_Heavy
AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite reduces live loads in accordance with NYCBC 2014 if live load reduction is set true by user. For further information see Live Load Reduction .
If live load reduction is set true and live load reduction template is imported from the library, live load results are reduced by calculated reduction factor.
Loads
Load properties based on loading schedule are added from Loads section as shown below. Add loadings.
Go to Loads section → Click “add”
Select load class and type
Enter value of load
Name loads
You can also import loading definitions from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library.
Click Load DB
Select loads → Click import
You can create your own loads database on AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library.
Load Combinations
Load combinations and envelopes are defined in Load Combination Tables section.
Add load combinations as shown below.
Click Add
Enter load factors to load classes
Name load combinations
You can import combinations from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library and also you can create new combination database for your project on AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud library.
Click Combination DB
Select combinations
Click import
AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite allows user to add load combinations or envelopes to another load combination. To see and add load combinations and envelopes columns to spreadsheet;
Click Showing w/o L.C. and click Showing w/o Env.
The algorithm prevents the definitions which causes circular dependency. The cells that cause the circular dependency are blocked by light grey colour.
To define envelopes;
Go to Envelopes spreadsheet
Click Add
Set YES to add the load classes to envelope
AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite allows user to add load combinations or envelopes to another envelope. To see and add load combinations and envelopes columns to spreadsheet;
Click Showing w/o L.C. and click Showing w/o Env.
The algorithm prevents the definitions which causes circular dependency. The cells that cause the circular dependency are blocked by light grey colour.
Defining Load Geometry
After completing the geometric modelling of the building, we will create the load geometry of each floor. AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite allows you to assign loads easily and saves your time.
There is a Loads item under each floor at tree view. Load geometry of the story is drawn from here.
Click Area button to draw area load
Select load case of the load area
You can not assign line load case or point load case to area load.
You do not have to delete the load drawing if you draw it with wrong command. You can change drawing type as shown above.
Right click on the load name in spreadsheet
Click Select in Autocad to see the drawn area
Click Select Same Load Classes to see all the loads that are drawn in the same load class
Click Select Same Load Cases to see all the loads that are drawn in the same load case
Click Duplicate to clone the load
AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite allows user to clone the loads to define repeatitive load areas.
Edit the type and load case of the clone load.
Draw all the load areas in accordance with the load schedule.
Keep in mind that if load areas intersects, loading value of the intersection region is the sum of all loads which intersects in that region. Also if a reducible live load area and unreducible live load area intersects, there is no live load reduction in intersection region.
Click Line button to draw line loads
Select the load case of the line load
There is no external point load in load schedule but you can add point load as follows;
Click Point button and click on the drawing space to add point load
Select load case of the point load
To see how the load distributes to columns and shear walls ;
Click Refresh Load Distribution Factor button
Total of the distribution percentages must be 100.
Load drawings of each floor are visible only if loads item under the floor is active to avoid the confusion on the drawing space. Also loads are not reflected in 3D view to avoid confusion.
Load schedule pdf file can be find in the attachments of Introduction page.
