Bolt Property [SIG]
The following parameters will be used for the code checks and modeling of associated bridge elements. Bolt properties defined in this section will be assigned to relevant components, such as splices, at a later stage.
Geometric Properties
Bolt Diameter [0.625/0.75/0.875/1/1.125]: Nominal diameter of the bolt used in design. The design only supports the given options for bolt diameter, and entering a different bolt diameter is not supported.
The definitions related to bolt geometry can be specified by defining parameters below:
Diameter of the Head: The diameter of the top section of the bolt can be specified using this parameter.
Diameter of the Nut: The diameter of the nut section of the bolt can be specified using this parameter.
Thickness of the Head: The thickness of the top section of the bolt can be specified using this parameter.
Thickness of the Nut: The thickness of the nut section of the bolt can be specified using this parameter.
Mechanical Properties
Grade of Bolt Material [A325/F1852/A490/F2280/A307_GradeA/A307_GradeB]: The type of material used for the bolt determines the shear resistance of low strength bolts and the minimum required bolt tension for high strength bolts.
Is Bolt Slip Critical? [Yes/No]: Option to specify the mechanism by which bolt force is transferred. This parameter turns automatically into ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) in case a low strength bolt grade is selected.
Hole Type [StandardHole/OversizeHole/Short-SlottedHoles/Long-SlottedHoleswithPerptoForce/Long-SlottedHoleswithParaltoForce]: Affects the reduction factor for bolt holes in determining block shear rupture resistance.
Punched or Drilled Hole [PunchedFullSize/DrilledFullSize]: Bolts can be specified as either drilled or punched. This parameter will be used for design of related elements.
Bolt Thread [Excluded/Included]: The type of bolt is determined by the position of threads relative to the shear plane and impacts the shear resistance of the bolt.
Surface Condition [ClassA/ClassB/ClassC/ClassD]: Related to the slip resistance of bolts. Refers to the condition of the faying surfaces, such as being unpainted and clean, blast-cleaned with a coating, galvanized, etc.
Visual Settings
Number of Segments Used to Draw the Bolt:The "Number of Segments Used to Draw the Bolt" refers to how many discrete parts or segments are used to represent a bolt in a graphical or computational model.
