In this part, the definitions for some terms referred through this document are provided.

Analytical line:

An analytical line is the representative of the FE model for i) beams and ii) walls. It is mentioned as “analytical beams” and “analytical walls” in the AEC|BOLT AUTOCAD App, respectively.
(The prefix abbreviations “AB-” and “AW-” are used as default with the corresponding member number: AB-1, AW-3, etc.)


From a mathematical point of view, two points and one line forms an analytical line. Drawing a line between two concerned points results in the generation of an analytical line in the AEC|BOLT AUTOCAD App. In case of a discontinuity on a straight line between the two points, breakpoint(s) should be pointed at the discontinuity stations. A discontinuity may be due to:


-change of cross-section

-interfering with another member

-offset on plan/elevation view

Figure 1a represents the formwork plan of a group of shear walls and beams. Overlaying the architectural/structural drawing in the AEC|BOLT AUTOCAD App is the drawing generated.

The information comes out by drawing in Figure 1a is transformed into:

-3D model
-Geometry for the construction documents

Breakpoint:

A breakpoint is defined in case of a discontinuity along a straight analytical line.

Figure 1b illustrates the analytical line definitions of the walls for the same layout.
The wall between beams B1 and B3 is a straight line with a change in cross-section in the analytical line named AW 12.

On the AW 12, two points represent the breakpoints due to the change of thickness.

Figure 1c provides the view of the relationship between the analytical walls and the analytical beams.

The information comes out by drawing in Figure 1c is transformed into:

-The mathematical model for the finite element analysis

-The pieces of structural members to be verified regarding code checks
