The gusset plate has no impact on the finite element model and is only used for design and 3D visualization purposes. However, if you apply ‘Stiffener/Gusset Plate Load' in the 'Girder Construction’ object, the weight of the gusset plate will act as a point load on the girder during the construction stage.
The gusset plates defined here will be set in the gusset plate tab of the Cross Frames.
Plate
Connection Type [BOLTED/WELDED]: There are two connection types: one is 'BOLTED' and the other is 'WELDED'.
Material: This represents the material of the plate.
Height: The height of the gusset plates can be specified using this parameter. For a visual representation of the height of the plates, refer to the figure below.
Width: The width of the gusset plates can be specified using this parameter. For a visual representation of the width of the plates, refer to the figure below.
Thickness: The thickness along the longitudinal direction can be specified by defining this parameter for the plates.
Bolt
Bolt Property: Set the properties you have previously defined in 'Bolt Property' under the Properties tab.
Bolt Arrangement: This is an input in the form of a list. Each element of the list represents the number of bolts per column.
Vertical Dist. Between Bolt Center and Edge: For a visual representation, refer to the figure below.
Horizontal Dist. Between Bolt Center and Edge: For a visual representation, refer to the figure below.
Spacing Between Rows: The spacing of bolt rows can be specified using this parameter.
Spacing Between Columns: The spacing of the bolt columns can be specified using this parameter.
Display Settings
Circular Smoothness: The 3D model of the bolts can be adjusted with this parameter. Higher Circular Smoothness will result in a more circular visualization of the bolts.
Show Bolts [YES/NO]: If this parameter is set to 'NO,' the bolts will not be displayed. Otherwise, the bolts will be shown within the model. However, enabling this option increases the triangulation number, leading to slower performance. To reduce compile time, disabling the detailing option can be helpful.
Gusset plates defined in this section will be further used in the gusset plate definitions of the Bracings.
