Plate Girder [EX1-SIG]

After clicking on 'Superstructure > Steel Girders > Plate Girder' in the navigation treeview, follow the steps to define the Plate Girder. You can use the collapsed documentation page below for more information on the explanations of each parameter.

Click three-dots icon on Girder Layout cell and set a layout.

Edit the plate girder dimensions. To enter a station-dependent dimension;

Click three-dots icon on Top Flange Width cell and Edit (spreadsheet).

Enter the Start Station as 0.

If the user enters the length along the girder, the end station and Station Difference will be calculated automatically. Conversely, if the user enters the end station, the length and Station Difference data will be calculated automatically.

Set the Length parameter to 100. After this operation, the End Station and Station Difference parameters will be automatically calculated.

Set the Station Difference parameter to 120. After this operation, the End Station and Length parameters will be automatically calculated.

Set the Start Station parameter to 36. After this operation, the End Station, Station Difference and Length parameters will be automatically calculated.

Please enter the following values sequentially:
1^st row - Start Station: 0, End Station: 113.30, Top Flange Width: 16
2^nd row - Start Station: 113.30, End Station: 136.20, Top Flange Width: 21
3^rd row - Start Station: 136.20, End Station: 156.20, Top Flange Width: 21
4^th row - Start Station: 156.20, End Station: 176.20, Top Flange Width: 21
5^th row - Start Station: 176.20, End Station: 197.30, Top Flange Width: 21
6^th row - Start Station: 197.30, End Station: 361.30, Top Flange Width: 18

Top Flange Thickness, Web Depth and Thickness, Bottom Flange Width and Thickness, Haunch Thickness, and Additional Haunch Width parameters can be defined similarly to Top Flange Width.

Click three-dots icon on Top Flange Material cells and select a Material as A709 50.

The reason for selecting the material parameter instead of importing its value is that the material objects have already been imported previously.

If you have reached this stage and you don't have a material to select, and if you want to use the Import Button, you can refer to the Quick Tip.

Quick Tip: Learn how to import materials If there is no material to be set, follow the steps below: - Click the three dots on the cell and select Import Material. - In the opened window, choose the material. - Click the Import button.

Web Material and Bottom Flange Material parameters can be defined similarly to Top Flange Material.

Click three-dots icon on Web Material and Bottom Flange Material cells and select a Material as A709 50

You can edit the FE mesh settings of girders from FEA Settings tab.
Keep the mesh size and number of result extraction as default.

When the steps are completed, the shared screenshot displayed in the adjacent cell should be visible in the 3D view of OpenBrIM.

To model all the girders, copy the data below and paste the parameters into the first cell in OpenBrIM spreadsheet. Refer to the quick tip for an easy guide on how to perform the copy operation. After completing the copy, proceed to the next step to verify the model.

Quick Tip: Learn how to Copy inputs to OpenBrIM Copy the desired data with the automatic copy button in the upper left corner. Click on the first cell in and use the Ctrl+V shortcut to paste. If icon won’t appear, collapse page tree menu by clicking on arrow or using shortcut “[”. While pasting large data, it would be handy to turn of Auto-refresh .
