Başlık kirişi, köprü ayaklarıyla tabliye arasında bulunan ara elemandır. Düşey yük taşıyan ana kirişleri taşır ve bu kirişlerin yükünü köprü ayaklarına/ aktarır. Başlık kirişi deprem ve diğer yükleme kombinasyonları esnasında yapıyı daha güvenli kılar, yüklerin eşit dağılımını gerçekleştirigerçekleştirir. Yapının bütünleşik olarak hareket etmesini sağlar. Bağ kiriş görevi görür.
