Foundation plan layout is shown below. We are going to use following features while modeling on this floor.
→ Foundation wall
→ Mat edge & mat piece
→ Adding pile cap template
→ Creating custom pile cap & adding pile
→ Adding footing template
→ Creating custom footing
Foundation Wall
Go to Foundation → Foundation Walls in tree view item
Click Foundation Wall button
Enter the story number of foundation wall as 1
Story plan will be overlayed. If you need, you can exit the command and go to relevant floor and overlay a reference drawing which includes the foundation wall drawing. Repeat above instructions and start drawing.
Draw the foundation wall analytical line along the center line
Select material from spreadsheet
Enter thickness
Click Foundation Wall button again
Enter the story number of foundation wall as 1
draw the second foundation wall as illustrated above
If its necesaary create break points or enter elevation offset and refline offset from spreadsheet.
Mat Foundation
Shallow mat foundation is defined from this section.
Click draw Mat Edge button to draw mat edge
Draw the mat edge
The relation between mat edge and mat piece is the same as the relation between slab edge and slab piece. You can divide mat edge into areas to define different properties.
Click Mat Piece button
Draw the mat piece area
Enter the thinkness of mat edge and mat pieces
Select material
Enter soil capacity and subgrade modulus
Enter clear cover top&bottom
3D view of mat foundation is shown below.
Pile Foundation
You can define deep foundations in two ways. AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite allows user to draw custom pile caps under columns or shear walls. Or you can import Pile Cap Templates from AEC|BOLT BIM Cloud and edit parameters then set template to columns or shear walls.
Custom Pile Caps
Go to Pile Caps → Custom
Click Pile Cap Edge
Draw the pile cap under the shear wall and column as shown below
Enter the pile capacity parameters
Select the concrete&rebar material
Enter cap depth and pile diameter
Enter K values
Enter Pile embedment to cap
Click Show button to go to pile spreadsheet
Click Pile to add piles
Click to point where pile to be centered
You can edit the pile parameters from spreadsheet as shown below.
Click Back To Pile Cap to go back to custom spreadsheet.
Go to Pile Caps spreadsheet
The custom pile cap you draw is automatically assigned to shear wall and column as shown above.
Enter pile embedment to soil in the spreadsheet.
Enter elevation offset (if necessary)
3D view of custom pile cap is shown below.
Pile Cap Template
Go to Pile Caps → Templates spreadsheet
Click Import Pile Caps
Select Pile foundation templates
Click import
You can see detailed information about selected pile foundation template in the right side of pop up window as shown below.
Select concrete&rebar material for the imported pile foundations
Click template in the spreadsheet to see the plan view of pile foundation
Go to Pile Caps spreadsheet
Click Assign Pile Cap Template
Select columns or shear walls to assign pile foundation template
You can select multiple columns at the same time.
Select the template for each column from spreadsheet as shown below
You may be warned about inaccurate column dimension if selected pile foundation template is not suitable for column.
3D view of pile foundation template is shown below.
Footings
AEC | BOLT Building Design Suite enables user to define custom footing and also user can import footing templates from AEC| BOLT BIM Cloud.
Templates
Go to Pile Caps → Footings → Templates
Click Import Footing
Select footings → click import
You can see detailed information about footing templated in the right side of pop up window as shown above.
Select the concrete material of footing
Go to Pile Caps → Footings
Click Add Footing
Select columns
You can select multiple columns at the same time.
Select the footing templates for each column
3D view of footings are shown below.
Custom Footing
Go to Footings → Custom
Click Add
Select the concrete material of the custom footing
Enter width&length&depth
Enter soil capacity and soil subgrade modulus
Enter rebar count and select rebar number in two directions
Go to Footings spreadsheet
Click Add
Select column
You can select multiple columns at the same time.
Set custom footing to column from spreadsheet.
